When: November 12 and November 19 at 7 pm Where: West Coast Players, 21905 US-19 North, Clearwater, FL 33759
West Coast Players will hold auditions for A.R. Gurney’s play The Dining Room on
Sunday, November 12, and Sunday, November 19 at 7:00 PM at the theater.
Victor Carr is directing.
Performances will be March 8 through March 24, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2:00.
Rehearsals will start in November as soon as the cast is selected. Rehearsals will not be called during the Holidays. On-stage rehearsals will begin February 6 and will most likely be three nights per week. Additional rehearsals will be determined at that time if needed.
The cast will consist of 3 Women and 3 Men who will play 57 different roles, ranging in age from ten years old to seventy+ years old. There are 18 different vignettes that center around a large dining room table in different time periods and in different houses. Unlike standard one-act play productions, the vignettes overlap each other with one starting before the previous one has ended, so actors will be required to make costume changes to match the character, sometimes with very little time between vignettes. Actors will be selected without regard to cultural background.
Actors should come prepared with monologues/ improv acting that will demonstrate the actor’s ability to be
a) a 10-year-old
b) a 17-year-old
c) a young adult
d) a middle-aged adult
e) a senior citizen.
Each presentation should be no longer than 30 seconds; just enough time to demonstrate the actor’s ability to take on various characters. The presentations do NOT have to be from any current play/movie/TV show but should be convincing to the audience that the character is of that age range.
